Public Hisotry Through film, as groups you will work on self-documentaries that "speak back" to the popular representations of Silicon Valley that circulate in the media in the form of television shows such as HBO’s Silicon Valley and in the news; and a longside your own rich experiences and personal history. You Film's representations call on you to draw upon the rich history of the East Side, looking at social, economic, and environmental justice issues. Your locations call on you to identify iconic spaces in San Jose that for you represent public sites where you see your community butting up against or challenging Silicon Valley. These spaces form a counter balance and are significant because they are where you change “representational spaces into spaces of representation”. And as part of the creative process, how you apply the language of film to tell the social memory and place memory, create your own purposeful documentary film. Each film that will be created will pose different questions and provide different answers about Silicon Valley—past and present.
